00;00;00;14 - 00;00;11;18
Meghan
So first of all, first question right off the bat, how do you pronounce the planet that starts with the letter? You How do you say it.

00;00;12;05 - 00;00;13;02
Christina
Uranus?

00;00;14;23 - 00;00;22;16
Meghan
Right. Well, I don't know if that's right. I think I think some people say Uranus. And some people say Uranus. Oh.

00;00;23;00 - 00;00;24;04
Christina
But S.C..

00;00;25;25 - 00;00;46;16
Meghan
I I ask that question is very important because as I mentioned, I don't remember a couple of podcasts ago or maybe I've mentioned it a few times. My son and I just did a six month step challenge. So for the end of the step challenge, even though he got a prize, I still wanted to present him with a medal.

00;00;46;21 - 00;01;18;18
Meghan
We talked about doing, like, closing ceremonies, you know. I didn't do anything crazy. I did play the Olympic music and I bestowed the medal on him. Mm hmm. And the medal said, Keep your anus moving. And it was like the planet when I say my ten year old laughed so hard. Oh, it's so worth it. He got such a kick out of that medal.

00;01;18;24 - 00;01;21;16
Speaker 3
Oh, my gosh. That's so cute.

00;01;21;27 - 00;01;23;02
Meghan
Hi, I'm Megan.

00;01;23;03 - 00;01;26;24
Christina
And I'm Christina. And this is a Full Cup Club podcast.

00;01;27;08 - 00;01;36;15
Meghan
We're here to talk through the good, the bad, and the ugly of loss. Whether that's losing a loved one, a job, a dream, or even your marbles.

00;01;37;08 - 00;02;00;05
Christina
So whether your cup has coffee, tea, or vodka in it. Welcome to the World Cup Club. OK, friends, on today's episode, we're talking about taking care of yourself after you lose your person. Or a loved one important to you at a million other things. Yeah. That you're taking care of. But don't forget yourself.

00;02;00;07 - 00;02;12;20
Meghan
I think a lot of people get overwhelmed and it's too easy to just forget to take care of yourself when you're having to deal with all this other stuff. Yeah, totally. But don't do that.

00;02;13;03 - 00;02;17;09
Christina
Don't do that. But first, Megan, what's in your cup today?

00;02;17;10 - 00;02;39;23
Meghan
Today I have fizzy water again in my kitchen cooler because it's approximately 14,000 degrees outside. And I have pitched Waterloo, which I have had before. I think. I think I had it on the last episode. It's so good. This is my last one. I'm almost done with the whole box. I really like it. Ten out of ten recommend peach flavored Waterloo.

00;02;40;20 - 00;02;41;29
Meghan
What are you drinking today?

00;02;43;05 - 00;03;16;08
Christina
Today? So last and last episode and episode 21, I talked about my mug that I got from Zen Pottery And I love I don't know about you, but I love when a business, a small business sends you your product. And it's beautifully wrapped and they also send you some other little additional gifts. So with that came this little bag of tea from a company called a Well-rooted Tea, and it is a relief tea.

00;03;16;15 - 00;03;23;02
Christina
So it's for allergy. So it's got like metal and peppermint and honey flakes and stuff like that.

00;03;23;02 - 00;03;25;28
Meghan
So do you find that it helps with your allergies?

00;03;25;29 - 00;03;32;09
Christina
I just started I don't have allergies, but I have had a cold and so I was like, well, it'll make me feel like.

00;03;32;18 - 00;03;33;16
Speaker 3
Maybe it won't make a.

00;03;33;16 - 00;03;46;01
Meghan
Difference. But I you know, as a long time allergy sufferer, I have never found that. You hear people talk about eating raw honey from your local area.

00;03;46;02 - 00;03;46;18
Christina
Local.

00;03;47;10 - 00;03;57;04
Meghan
Yes. That has not helped me. Nettle has never helped me. So I just as well, you know, if you're out there and you've tried all these things and they haven't worked. Me neither.

00;03;58;01 - 00;03;58;27
Speaker 3
You just need to move.

00;03;58;27 - 00;04;02;01
Christina
To some other region of the U.S. where.

00;04;02;16 - 00;04;02;26
Meghan
Yeah.

00;04;03;01 - 00;04;22;07
Christina
Like just pick up a move. I'm always just fascinated with people that just they have no forethought of, like, well, just pick up and move. Yeah. Like, if that's an issue and you're like, yeah, because I'm a million there and I can just completely abandon my community and move somewhere else where I have no support system. Sure, sure. Thank you for that advice.

00;04;22;15 - 00;04;24;24
Meghan
I try the neti pot too. Have you ever done that?

00;04;25;01 - 00;04;25;24
Christina
Yes, I have.

00;04;25;24 - 00;04;43;27
Meghan
OK, so I tried and it didn't work like the what? You know, so a neti pot is like it's like a little pot and you kind of tilt your head and you pour the water in like up one nostril. It's supposed to come out the other one. Yeah, well, for you. So for me.

00;04;45;08 - 00;04;46;03
Speaker 3
Does it come out your.

00;04;46;03 - 00;04;46;21
Christina
Ear just.

00;04;46;21 - 00;04;50;17
Meghan
Like either would go down the back of my throat or.

00;04;50;17 - 00;04;51;11
Speaker 3
Oh, God.

00;04;51;11 - 00;05;15;08
Meghan
Or just come out the same nostril. And I'm like, what am I doing wrong? I tried, like, tilting my head more and tilting the pot. I tried every angle I'm like upside down, doing somersaults, trying to get the nanny pot to work, and it's not working. So I have my annual doctor visit shortly after that. Couple weeks after that, I asked my doctor, Hey, look, I have these allergies, can I talk to an allergist or whatever?

00;05;15;08 - 00;05;37;04
Meghan
I tried to do a neti pot. It didn't work. And, you know, I was just telling him all the things that I've tried and he he looked up my nose. He was like, you have thick nose walls. And that's a common sign of allergy sufferers. It's just like so inflamed that the space between where it would, like, connect to the other nostril, it's closed off.

00;05;37;16 - 00;05;41;00
Meghan
Nothing can get through. Interesting. Why the network didn't work.

00;05;41;22 - 00;05;42;02
Speaker 3
Wow.

00;05;42;03 - 00;05;44;09
Meghan
Yeah, I thought I was broken.

00;05;44;10 - 00;05;49;08
Christina
Oh, man, that's. That's a bummer. Like, swollen. Wow. Ouch.

00;05;49;18 - 00;05;51;27
Meghan
I mean, that's not painful. It's just, you know.

00;05;52;21 - 00;05;53;16
Christina
It's just it's.

00;05;53;16 - 00;06;02;03
Meghan
Like, full. And that's what I've said before. It always just feels very full. It feels like the inside of my face is itchy. And you can't scratch it because the inside.

00;06;03;03 - 00;06;04;11
Speaker 3
Oh, my goodness.

00;06;05;02 - 00;06;25;10
Christina
So on today's episode, we're talking about after you lose your person or maybe your parent or something like that. Sometimes we have a tendency to we're taking care of all of the people that are around us. We have kids. We have family members. We're taking her all of these things. And sometimes we can forget to take care of ourselves.

00;06;25;10 - 00;06;47;23
Christina
And we've talked about self-care, but this is at a different level. This is health care that we want to talk about, that we want to encourage you to remember to take care of of those bigger things. And so we want to remind you of some of those milestone things. And hopefully we're going to make you laugh today because we're going to talk about Megan.

00;06;47;23 - 00;06;49;03
Speaker 3
What are we going to talk today?

00;06;49;10 - 00;06;50;02
Meghan
Well, first.

00;06;50;02 - 00;06;50;18
Christina
We're excited.

00;06;50;24 - 00;07;05;09
Meghan
To comment on getting your annual exams, you know, so, yes, every three to five years, women are supposed to get a pap smear. The three to five depends on your age and everything.

00;07;05;19 - 00;07;13;12
Christina
If you go to see a Cancer.org, they give you a list of all of the things that you need to.

00;07;13;13 - 00;07;15;23
Meghan
Oh, good. Like all of the different.

00;07;15;23 - 00;07;38;03
Christina
Things you should call their age at each age. So cervical cancer is between the ages of 25 and 39 is when you should start having that done to screen for cervical cancer. When you are 40 to 49, you need to be screened for breast cancer, cervical cancer, and at 45 you need to start being screened for colorectal cancer.

00;07;38;03 - 00;07;38;14
Christina
OK.

00;07;39;02 - 00;07;42;16
Meghan
So it's not a colonoscopy like an annual colonoscopy or something.

00;07;42;16 - 00;08;12;12
Christina
Yes, yes. And then also according to them, if you are African-American and you are somebody who is born with a prostate at age 45, you should start being checked, having a prostate exam. So they have a full list on their site. It's a great site and we used it in college as a reference. The American Cancer Society, some of the stuff in explains it does a really nice job of explaining some of the things about cancer.

00;08;12;12 - 00;08;13;26
Christina
So hit that.

00;08;13;26 - 00;08;15;16
Meghan
Up. Yeah, we'll link it in the show notes.

00;08;15;21 - 00;08;20;22
Christina
Friends, what we really want to make sure is that you don't die of embarrassment.

00;08;20;22 - 00;08;21;17
Meghan
Oh my goodness.

00;08;21;18 - 00;08;37;05
Christina
Are so embarrassed. They don't want to go have this stuff done because it's like, Oh, they're going to stick a camera up my butt. They're going to do this. They're going to do that. Like friends. You know how hard it is. Like we're just going to say it like, you know how hard it is. To lose a person.

00;08;37;05 - 00;08;49;18
Christina
Like, you know, if you get to do some preventative care and you can, you know, keep your loved ones from having to go through that again, don't die of embarrassment.

00;08;49;18 - 00;09;11;28
Meghan
Yes. I love how you don't do it. Yes, exactly. And the people that do these exams they see so many butts, they see so many mothers. They are just they're not they don't care what yours looks like. They're professionals. They're just in their to, you know, make sure everything's good. And then they they close you back up.

00;09;13;00 - 00;09;13;12
Speaker 3
Yeah.

00;09;14;06 - 00;09;16;20
Christina
Cindy on your merry way. Oh, my.

00;09;16;20 - 00;09;37;09
Meghan
God. Yeah. Yes. So I recently, you know, in doing all of this and taking care of myself, I got a mammogram. So my mom died of breast cancer in her late thirties. So I am supposed to start or I was supposed to start screening for that in my late twenties. So every year since my late twenties, I have gone to get a mammogram.

00;09;37;19 - 00;09;48;21
Meghan
I think the age that the average person you now you can correct me if I'm wrong, but the age that the average woman is supposed to start getting annual mammograms, I think is 35 or 40, something like that.

00;09;48;21 - 00;10;05;21
Christina
Yeah, because this is a I believe it's 40. And the American cancer I mean, the American Cancer Society, it says 40 to 49 is when and I believe I was about 40 when I had mine. That seems about right. My first one was about four at age four. Yeah. Because I'm 47 yeah. Had several.

00;10;05;21 - 00;10;21;11
Meghan
Yeah. OK, but anyways I had a mammogram last week and I was just thinking, you know, I didn't have a lot of, you know, input on what a mammogram was like. I didn't know what to expect for, for my first one and my mom died. Like, that's the person who tells you this sort of thing.

00;10;21;11 - 00;10;21;23
Christina
Yeah.

00;10;22;01 - 00;10;45;14
Meghan
So I didn't know what to expect and I went into it being really nervous because all I heard was people complaining how much it hurt, you know? Yes. And so I'm like, oh, my God, they're just going to, like, smash into a million pieces. They're just going to be obliterated. Like, I am going to get steamrolled, you know, because I didn't know what to expect.

00;10;46;15 - 00;11;03;07
Meghan
So now having several mammograms and you have also have several mammograms. Yes. If we are talking to somebody who is hesitant to go get a mammogram, I thought we should talk about things that hurt worse than getting a mammogram.

00;11;03;10 - 00;11;23;08
Christina
Yeah. Definitely. I've had several of them. And, you know, you and I were chatting the other day and I was saying I have written posts on Facebook after I've had mammograms because here's the deal. I want my friends to know that, like when you're growing up, people around you, it's the loudest voices that you hear as a kid growing up.

00;11;23;08 - 00;11;28;29
Christina
And you kind of remember those things where your answer like, oh, I have to go have a mammogram. And yeah, you know, it's.

00;11;28;29 - 00;11;30;02
Meghan
Hard like on TV.

00;11;30;02 - 00;11;30;16
Christina
And just.

00;11;30;16 - 00;11;34;12
Meghan
Feel like I remember saying people on TV being nervous.

00;11;34;12 - 00;12;05;18
Christina
Yes. Yes. And so you get that in your head. And I'm like, you know what? I did not have that experience. I had a very positive I mean, there are things that are far worse than having a mammogram. And so I was like, I want people to know because what was really surprising to me and I wish I could remember this, the percentage, but it was mind blowing how many women they will call and schedule mammograms like every year I get a call, they say, hey, it's time for your mammogram.

00;12;05;18 - 00;12;27;11
Christina
And so we schedule it right there on the phone. Grace over at Sutter Coast, she calls me and Grace schedules the appointment. And I go in and they told me when I got there one time, it was an insane percentage of people who never show up to their mammogram. Appointments. And I thought, this is crazy. It's because they're nervous is what I was told.

00;12;27;11 - 00;12;54;25
Christina
Wow. And so I every year when I have it done, I I scream to the rooftops, friends, you know, go go have your mammograms done. And for me, the reason that when I have a mammogram done, I do it because I want to honor the women and even men who have gone through breast cancer, like I have what I call my Carol which is my ex-husband's mother.

00;12;55;05 - 00;13;20;05
Christina
And she went through breast cancer. And I think of her when I schedule it and I go because I want to honor what she went through by making sure and taking care of myself. My best friend from high school, Cassandra, like she went through the same thing and so I think of those people and I'm like, I don't want other people to believe that this is something terrible because there are far worse things.

00;13;20;09 - 00;13;24;11
Meghan
I've had worse pain today than a mammogram.

00;13;25;27 - 00;13;36;17
Christina
So I have a hangnail people right now, I have a freaking hangnail. I have several of them. And my cuticles hurt so bad and that is a far worse and more annoying.

00;13;36;18 - 00;13;44;12
Meghan
So much worse than a paper cut. Yes, a paper cut is worse. Oh, my God. Oh, my gosh. Have you ever gotten a paper cut? Like in the between?

00;13;44;26 - 00;13;45;28
Speaker 3
In between your the.

00;13;45;28 - 00;13;48;11
Christina
Web of your fingers? Yeah.

00;13;48;11 - 00;13;51;16
Meghan
So much worse than the pain from a mammogram.

00;13;51;16 - 00;13;59;00
Christina
And, you know, it's worse than just regular paper. Have you ever opened a plastic OK, like toy for your kid that thick and you. Oh, my.

00;13;59;00 - 00;13;59;27
Speaker 3
Gosh.

00;14;01;02 - 00;14;08;16
Meghan
Why do you have to have, like, CIA level clearance to get some kids toys out of the packaging?

00;14;08;28 - 00;14;17;15
Christina
I wonder that. I'm just like, this is insane and it's scary. You need, like, a can opener, you know, suckers. I don't know, man.

00;14;17;15 - 00;14;29;26
Meghan
I feel like, you know, once you once you hit your thirties, the just regular, like, back or neck pain you sometimes wake up with is worse than a mammogram.

00;14;30;06 - 00;14;44;24
Christina
Oh, my gosh. Because then all day you're like you're knackered. You got a kink in your neck, and then you're just miserable. Yes. Yes. And that's all day. That's not even like a mammogram might take 15.

00;14;44;24 - 00;14;45;14
Meghan
To I.

00;14;45;15 - 00;14;46;27
Christina
Do know that it takes 15.

00;14;46;27 - 00;14;56;22
Meghan
Minutes. So I just went and they take four pictures and I call them pictures. But it's it's it is a picture, but it's like kind of in a machine.

00;14;56;22 - 00;14;58;04
Christina
Yeah, it's like four different.

00;14;58;04 - 00;15;15;15
Meghan
Yeah. So they do four different ones. You are not supposed to wear deodorant, lotion, perfume, et cetera. And none of that right? And they give you this little, this cool or my place to give you this cool cape to put on. So it only covers the top half of you. So don't wear a dress like wear shorts or pants or something.

00;15;17;21 - 00;15;18;16
Speaker 3
You guys, you never.

00;15;18;16 - 00;15;19;17
Christina
Thought about that.

00;15;19;27 - 00;15;36;07
Meghan
Yeah. So where all right. You know, your whole situation is going to be out, like, let's avoid that. So, yeah, they give your cape. So you take off your shirt and your bra, give you a little cape, and then you go back to it's like kind of like an x ray machine. And there's a person in there that will like position.

00;15;36;07 - 00;15;58;11
Meghan
You just right, you know, take your boob, put it where she needs to see it. I'd say she there are probably male mammogram technicians. I've always had a woman but but she one thing she said to me, she was like, you all right, this is clearly not your first time because you let me position you you know, I was like, yeah, just go whatever.

00;15;58;11 - 00;15;59;02
Christina
First rodeo.

00;15;59;03 - 00;16;10;22
Meghan
Whatever you need to do. Like, I'm not here to miss a spot. You know, I want you to see all everything you need to see. So you are the expert here? Yes. I just brought I just brought the funds.

00;16;12;00 - 00;16;15;21
Speaker 3
So just brought the funds back to the program.

00;16;15;25 - 00;16;48;21
Meghan
So so she that was a compliment she gave me. So I just wanted to pass that along. When you go get a mammogram, let them do their job. They're professionals. Let them put you where you need to go. It's going to be mild pressure. I'm serious when I say a hangnail is worse than a mammogram, mild discomfort. But that way if they put you where you need to be, they're so much more likely to see everything they need to see to do these screenings effectively.

00;16;48;24 - 00;17;23;10
Christina
So one of the things I saw from some ladies called the Boobie Doctors on Tick Talk. So if you want to go follow along on there, they were running through a lot of what Megan just explained that you go through. But I love that they added this one little extra thing. They said, if this is your first or maybe even second time, first couple times of having a mammogram, you're highly likely to be called back to have another one because they need additional views because they have nothing to compare it to.

00;17;23;19 - 00;17;40;10
Christina
So let's say and I had this happen several times in the beginning where that they'd have me come in and they're like, OK, we need to do an ultrasound because we see this, so don't freak out. It's very common in your first few times, and I wish I would have known that. I mean, it just barely found that out today.

00;17;40;10 - 00;17;58;02
Christina
And I've had like seven mammograms in my life. So if you get called back, that is very normal. That's happened to me several times. So, you know, don't panic. Yeah, that's that's normal. So what are some other things that you think of that are worse than or more uncomfortable?

00;17;58;02 - 00;18;12;28
Meghan
Something that is more uncomfortable than getting a mammogram? Have you ever bit into like an ice cream cone or a ice cream bar and got that like that sensitivity in your front teeth? That's worse than a mammogram. Yes. Or worse. OK, OK.

00;18;14;03 - 00;18;24;18
Christina
OK. So on my list, when you said biting into you, I don't I don't know. Not everyone is able to breastfeed but if you've ever had a toddler bite your neck, your breast.

00;18;26;23 - 00;18;28;09
Speaker 3
That I feel.

00;18;28;09 - 00;18;31;06
Meghan
Like just general nipple wear and tear.

00;18;31;06 - 00;18;32;21
Speaker 3
While you're breastfeeding, it's.

00;18;32;21 - 00;18;35;17
Meghan
Worse. Just like the dryness.

00;18;37;18 - 00;18;41;11
Christina
I mean, you're like you have this, like thing that you love that's biting.

00;18;42;02 - 00;18;43;05
Meghan
But you're like.

00;18;43;05 - 00;18;47;08
Speaker 3
Drying blood and you're just like, you know, didn't you know?

00;18;48;07 - 00;18;53;11
Christina
And then, of course, you scream, and then it scares the child and they're crying. Yeah.

00;18;53;11 - 00;18;54;26
Speaker 3
So I think.

00;18;55;03 - 00;19;04;27
Christina
Being bitten by a toddler. Yeah, actually just being bitten by a baby with teeth, that is nursing is like worse than having a mammogram.

00;19;04;27 - 00;19;11;21
Meghan
So there we go. A sunburn. Having a sunburn is more uncomfortable than having a mammogram.

00;19;12;15 - 00;19;18;10
Speaker 3
Watching you episodes that's worse than me, I think.

00;19;19;04 - 00;19;38;27
Meghan
Oh, my gosh. My son, when he was little, OK, you was popular and I was like, no, we are not watching that show you is too whiny. And so my little like three year, my kid is like no case to whiny. We will. We can't watch it. So even though.

00;19;39;06 - 00;19;39;14
Christina
I'm just.

00;19;39;16 - 00;19;48;14
Meghan
He remembers, oh my gosh, though, seriously, I would get a mammogram every single day if the alternative.

00;19;48;22 - 00;19;54;12
Speaker 3
Was having to watch you. Oh, my goodness. Oh, my gosh.

00;19;54;12 - 00;20;02;20
Meghan
That's funny. Along the same lines, when your kid is telling you a story and it just never ends, they just never get to the point yet.

00;20;03;29 - 00;20;30;25
Christina
Oh, my gosh. Oh, man. Yes. If your child if you are somebody who can has experienced a child explaining to you Minecraft, Legends of Zelda, any sort of game like that, you know, you know. And like if you can handle that, you can handle the discomfort of a 15 minute mammogram.

00;20;31;01 - 00;20;32;01
Meghan
100%.

00;20;32;01 - 00;20;36;18
Christina
I think another one that is like a long term it's just like a like.

00;20;37;21 - 00;20;39;17
Speaker 3
How do I put this is like.

00;20;40;00 - 00;20;44;24
Christina
Long long term suffering is like do you ever get it inflamed tastebuds.

00;20;46;04 - 00;20;48;00
Speaker 3
Yeah. Yeah.

00;20;48;08 - 00;20;53;05
Christina
That is like, I mean that's far worse than 15 minutes of discomfort. Yeah.

00;20;53;06 - 00;20;55;18
Meghan
I always want to bite them off, but that's worse.

00;20;56;04 - 00;20;56;13
Speaker 3
Yeah.

00;20;57;01 - 00;21;00;09
Christina
When I was little I would try to do that like the could fall. You can't pull.

00;21;00;11 - 00;21;30;09
Meghan
Out, you know, they just get so much worse speaking of inflammation in your face, allergies, just having seasonal allergies is so much where you're so much more uncomfortable because it's longer term. Yes. And like I mentioned earlier, the inside of your face is itchy. Like, I don't know how to scratch the underside of my skin.

00;21;34;20 - 00;21;34;25
Speaker 3
I.

00;21;34;25 - 00;21;37;06
Christina
Hear you. I hate it like when your ears get itchy and or just.

00;21;37;06 - 00;21;37;22
Meghan
Like, yeah.

00;21;37;26 - 00;22;01;04
Christina
You're just like put your fingers on them and you're just like wiggling your hands back and forth. Trying to get. Yeah. When I think of going to have a mammogram, I think like people talk about how you are your boobs are getting squished. And I think the pressure and I think of couple of things. So one is going to a wedding or somewhere and you're wearing a formal and you have to wear.

00;22;01;04 - 00;22;01;18
Christina
So I was.

00;22;01;25 - 00;22;06;06
Meghan
As soon as you said pressure, I was like, oh, my gosh, wearing Spanx is so much worse.

00;22;08;02 - 00;22;08;17
Speaker 3
Yes.

00;22;08;28 - 00;22;13;06
Christina
Oh, my gosh. Is so much worse than like if you wear.

00;22;13;06 - 00;22;18;25
Meghan
A bra most of the time, you're already more uncomfortable than you would be having a mammogram.

00;22;19;20 - 00;22;33;14
Christina
100% true. I love that. Like, people probably will get this. But my husband had to wear a vest to work all the time and he tried to tell me once that wearing a vest was worse than wearing a bra.

00;22;33;14 - 00;22;35;16
Meghan
My gosh, he's so good all the time.

00;22;35;16 - 00;22;36;01
Christina
And I was.

00;22;36;26 - 00;22;37;26
Speaker 3
Like, you know, I.

00;22;37;26 - 00;22;55;00
Christina
Know. And I was like, I will ask the female officers you work with. And they were just like, they didn't even have words, you know what I mean? It's just like, no, we're not even going to comment on. That's the other one I was thinking of is wearing high heels. Like, if you can wear a high heels all day.

00;22;55;01 - 00;22;58;21
Christina
I mean, like, all of this stuff is like, man, we torture ourselves.

00;22;58;24 - 00;23;11;06
Meghan
That is that's the whole point, though. I mean, like, all of these things we already do are more uncomfortable than having a mammogram. So just go do it. Just go get them.

00;23;11;06 - 00;23;12;18
Christina
Yeah, just go have it.

00;23;12;19 - 00;23;17;22
Meghan
You're already you're already more uncomfortable probably sitting here right now listening to this podcast.

00;23;19;23 - 00;23;20;29
Speaker 3
You are probably.

00;23;20;29 - 00;23;24;24
Meghan
Already in more discomfort than a mammogram would cause.

00;23;24;26 - 00;23;48;13
Christina
Oh, my gosh. So a couple other ones that I was thinking pain level, like how you thought about things that you've done. You have subjected yourself to this pain on this that is far more like you paid somebody for this pain. What what have you done that you have paid for pain?

00;23;48;21 - 00;24;12;00
Meghan
That is finding a tattoo? Yes. Or a piercing. Even a piercing is a shorter amount of time because it's like one hole, but it's that amount of time is more painful than the pain you receive in a mammogram, number one. But number two, if you ever have anything like that, get infected so much worse. I had a piercing get infected once.

00;24;12;00 - 00;24;12;11
Meghan
It was.

00;24;12;16 - 00;24;18;14
Christina
Awful. I think of like waxing, having having another reasons why if you've.

00;24;18;14 - 00;24;23;00
Meghan
Ever had anything waxed but particularly your mother's.

00;24;23;08 - 00;24;23;22
Christina
Yeah.

00;24;24;06 - 00;24;26;00
Speaker 3
Mm mm mm mm.

00;24;26;00 - 00;24;30;15
Christina
Yeah. And we pay for this people. We pay for this and is far less painful than and.

00;24;30;17 - 00;24;39;18
Meghan
Yeah. And you go on purpose. What about, what about I've never gotten any like fillers or Botox or anything like that. I know you've gotten.

00;24;39;18 - 00;24;56;00
Christina
Botox, man. It's all on my list. It's on my list. I had Botox for the first time a few months ago. I'm going to get it again. On Monday. And that was that is at the top of my list. That is far. And and the here's the funny thing. If you have ever I'm just gonna throw this out there.

00;24;56;07 - 00;25;13;29
Christina
If you're somebody who's debated about getting Botox because you're like, well, my physician has said it will help with migraines, but I don't know. That sounds awful. The needle so tiny, it is not painful, but it is. If you're somebody who's like, I have Botox, but I'm so afraid of a mammogram. Oh, my gosh.

00;25;14;09 - 00;25;16;14
Meghan
Yeah. Oh, my God. No, no.

00;25;16;20 - 00;25;19;26
Christina
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you're. You're good. You're good.

00;25;20;02 - 00;25;35;24
Meghan
Totally good. I feel like if you've ever plucked a hair out of your face, that is more painful. Like, remember, remember tweezing your eyebrows, like, in the nineties particularly, like, we would really get.

00;25;35;24 - 00;25;36;24
Christina
A yes, ma'am.

00;25;38;01 - 00;25;44;12
Meghan
I have to pluck my one black chin hair once every couple of weeks.

00;25;48;11 - 00;25;48;29
Speaker 3
I think you.

00;25;50;09 - 00;26;09;27
Christina
Talk about if you are 30 years old, if you're listening to this and you're 30 years old, maybe even 34, and I just want to tell you, you need to get in some really good light and with a magnifying mirror and some tweezers, because, my friends, you might not believe it, but you need to look under your chin.

00;26;10;07 - 00;26;10;27
Christina
You just do.

00;26;10;28 - 00;26;11;22
Meghan
Why is this.

00;26;11;22 - 00;26;13;14
Christina
Where we're going to be your friends right now?

00;26;13;17 - 00;26;31;08
Meghan
Blond, super. Fine. Hair, but I will have one chin hair pop up and I pluck it every time, so it takes some time to grow back. So really is like every couple of weeks. It's this one chin hair and it's black and it's course. It's like rope, like it's so thick.

00;26;32;29 - 00;26;47;16
Christina
Well, like, do you feel like I mean, is there somebody designated, like, a friend? Do you have a friend designated that if something were to happen to you, you're in a coma? Long term coma or a year like it does. Whatever.

00;26;47;21 - 00;26;48;05
Meghan
Plucker.

00;26;48;15 - 00;27;11;05
Christina
Yes, yes. Like, I'm going to need you to come in, sneak my wax in person. In or some tweezers or something and take care of this, like, situation. Yes. You don't believe that, is there? You think? No, no, no. Ladies like I am 32 and I am precious. I do not know. We are being your friends. We are being your big sister.

00;27;11;05 - 00;27;29;15
Christina
You're welcome. Go find. Yes, go. Go do it right now. That's what I have to say. Also, speaking of squeezing, like, even worse is when you're being waxed and they miss a couple of hairs and then you're already like, so, like, oh, Georgie, please let this be over. And then they come at you with the tweezers, and you're just.

00;27;29;15 - 00;27;35;28
Speaker 3
Like, I threw a chair leave me a piece.

00;27;37;14 - 00;27;38;27
Christina
Just let it be over.

00;27;39;09 - 00;27;42;09
Meghan
Laser hair removal. Have you had. Oh, I.

00;27;42;09 - 00;27;43;10
Christina
Haven't had that for.

00;27;43;10 - 00;27;58;27
Meghan
A couple of sessions. And then the pandemic happened. I never went back, so I actually did not get any hair removed because it takes a few sessions. Oh, man. But that was more painful. Then. Thanks, rather then a mammogram. Yeah, I guess I could. I guess I could go back now, but I haven't.

00;27;58;27 - 00;28;26;20
Christina
I was thinking of one that other people will not quite understand. That maybe they will. So I have many pigs, and when I was in high school, I took drafting classes. So you're learning about architecture culture. And one of the things I remember is the pounds per pressure that like a woman, that if a woman steps on you with her high heel shoe the pounds of pressure that that point has on it are amazing.

00;28;26;25 - 00;28;40;16
Christina
Like, it's an incredible amount of pressure. Friends, the same thing happens when a mini pig that is £100 steps on your foot that yes. That is far more painful than your boob being.

00;28;40;19 - 00;28;59;13
Meghan
That I feel like that's relatable to I have a dog and a cat. And so if I'm laying on the couch or my bed, they'll get up on me. And so sometimes when they press down, if like most of their weight is on that one paw, I'll feel that kind of what you're talking about, that pressure like coming one paw.

00;28;59;22 - 00;29;22;24
Meghan
So yeah, I have to relocate them. But yes, yes, that is that is more uncomfortable than getting a mammogram. Yeah. And I feel like if the concern is not necessarily the pain because we've gone over things that are more painful, but if maybe the concern is your privacy or, you know, having somebody see your, you know, your zones that you don't usually share with other people.

00;29;23;04 - 00;29;48;03
Meghan
I feel like if you've ever had a kid, that's I mean, they they've seen everything already. I mean, they're professionals, right? They're doctors. They are technicians. They are in this field like we were talking about earlier. They're looking at their equipment. They are doing their job. They're not seeing these, you know, these like nice. What's the word? What's the word?

00;29;48;04 - 00;30;00;01
Meghan
They're not seeing these, like nice, bizarre angles. They're seeing a patient coming in for a procedure or for a you know, for something that they need. They're not like looking at it in that way. Yes.

00;30;00;02 - 00;30;16;15
Christina
You know, I think we're always more self-conscious so I noticed this. I did nails for years and people would always, like, try to hide their hands. Oh, my gosh, I'm so embarrassed. My nails look bad. I was like, I'm not I'm not looking at your nails and getting your nails like you know what I mean? So I think it's just like sometimes we make it worse.

00;30;16;23 - 00;30;29;09
Meghan
Yeah. We all think that everybody's paying attention, more attention to us than they are I feel like, you know, like everybody's gonna notice. Whatever now, girl. Everybody's paying attention to themselves because everybody's insecure.

00;30;29;12 - 00;30;31;22
Speaker 3
Mm mm mm mm yeah.

00;30;31;22 - 00;30;48;21
Christina
Exactly. I love now it's like you go into, like, I going to be waxed, and my girl is just like, I didn't realize this was a thing, but it totally is a thing. You get to where you're so comfortable, you just, like, drop your drawers right there and get on the table, and she's just standing there, like, no big deal.

00;30;48;21 - 00;31;12;08
Christina
So, like, people, they see people in this field. They see that stuff all the time. Do not die of embarrassment and go have your colon checked and go have, you know, do your pap smear. Do all of the things, because if you catch it, preventative medicine. I was explaining preventative medicine, preventative care to my son who is 24 the other day.

00;31;12;08 - 00;31;37;09
Christina
He was like, Oh, I need to go to the dentist. Should I, you know, what should I do? And I was explaining, you know, every year insurance companies they pay for preventative care, they pay many insurances, check your insurance, they will pay for annual physicals. And for women, that will include many times your pap smear every year it will include your basic blood work, all of that stuff.

00;31;37;09 - 00;31;57;00
Christina
So maybe for somebody who's not familiar with it, remember monsters live in the dark. So flip the light on. Go to call your insurance company and say, hey, what types of preventative care? Some of them will even include like gym memberships or paying for an app that has fitness stuff on it. There's a lot of things like that.

00;31;57;09 - 00;32;20;22
Christina
And so if this is something that your partner was the one who took care of this stuff for you and you're not aware of what happens with insurance or Oh, like my son was, he's 24, so he wasn't aware that Cleanings are included with your dental care. A lot of times, at least once or twice a year you go in and you have your teeth cleaned and was explaining like, OK, if they catch this early then you don't have to.

00;32;20;22 - 00;32;47;08
Christina
How so? For those of you that this is a newer concept, like don't be afraid to ask questions of your insurance company or health care provider I'm not saying that this is a thing, but I remember when I was a kid, I had a lot of anxiety about going to the dentist, and I'm pretty sure that they would send my parents because they would put something in the mail like a pill in the mail to give me before I got there.

00;32;47;08 - 00;33;11;01
Christina
And I've often wondered, was it like an anti-anxiety or something so I imagine if you are really feeling anxious about going to have something like this done, talk to your health care provider. Maybe there is something they can suggest or something they can help you to feel more comfortable. There may be somebody, if you are alone in this process, that they can send someone with you.

00;33;11;01 - 00;33;13;10
Christina
So ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask.

00;33;13;10 - 00;33;17;24
Meghan
Yes, I like you said that before, that monsters live in the dark and I like that. You know.

00;33;17;24 - 00;33;18;21
Christina
It's Dr. Phil.

00;33;18;27 - 00;33;21;13
Meghan
Dr. Phil that shout out to Dr. Phil.

00;33;21;26 - 00;33;22;12
Speaker 3
Mm.

00;33;23;12 - 00;33;47;10
Meghan
Yeah, I love that. So the other thing is, particularly with mammograms, usually the results are available pretty quickly. So it's not like you get it. And then you have you feel this anticipation waiting for the results for weeks. Yeah, it was the next day for me. It was it was ready and available. So that's another thing I feel like you could get hung up on is like, oh, my gosh, I do the test, and then I have to wait.

00;33;47;10 - 00;33;55;05
Meghan
And then it's like, oh, my gosh. What if there was something wrong, you know? But you don't have to wait that long for the results, so. Yeah, just go do it, man.

00;33;55;05 - 00;33;57;02
Christina
Anger and townhouse are worse.

00;33;57;02 - 00;34;01;08
Meghan
Than, oh, my goodness. So much worse. I used to get those as a kid.

00;34;01;27 - 00;34;03;29
Christina
And I still get them as an adult.

00;34;03;29 - 00;34;32;11
Meghan
So I have had them as an adult, but I was like, I have, like, chronic ingrown toenail yeah. I feel like I feel like if you go to the hair salon and you get a haircut, right? So your hair's wet and then they blow dry it to style your tits just to blow dry and finish your haircut. I feel like the discomfort from the heat of the hair dryer sitting there in that chair for 20, 30 minutes is more uncomfortable than having a mammogram.

00;34;32;18 - 00;34;50;22
Christina
Yeah, because you're a hot and you can't touch and yeah. I mean, I feel like the thing that we've come to today is realizing that women spend a lifetime torturing themselves and paying somebody to do it. And all of these things are in preparation for having a breast exam. And so, I mean, a mammogram and so. Yeah, yeah, just do it, friends.

00;34;50;22 - 00;34;53;13
Christina
Just do it. Take your friends. Like, I.

00;34;53;13 - 00;34;54;08
Meghan
Feel like make it.

00;34;54;18 - 00;35;15;03
Christina
Wrong. I feel like if everybody booked them at the same time, you could all go to lunch, you could go and have this done, and then you're all together. It's just a sort of like take some friends, be a support make it a thing, friends. I feel like there's an extra an extra over out there that's listening that might get an idea.

00;35;15;10 - 00;35;30;19
Christina
We are in June. October is coming up. So maybe if you're like, hey, I'm going to get my friends together or I'm just going to do an open invitation to all of my friends on Facebook, Hey, I want to go do this. We're going to do this on a Friday. We're all going to take off. We're going to go have a really good lunch.

00;35;30;19 - 00;35;44;06
Meghan
I love being the introvert to your extrovert, because if somebody put an invite on Facebook I wouldn't go. Absolutely not. I mean, to be personally bullied into doing something.

00;35;47;00 - 00;35;48;07
Speaker 3
Oh, my goodness.

00;35;48;07 - 00;36;05;23
Meghan
This is I'm just saying, like, that's not something that would work to get me to do it. I already go get my mammograms But if I were a person that was hesitant and also my introverted personality, somebody just announcing it on Facebook, I might keep scrolling, like, I'm just going to ignore it.

00;36;05;23 - 00;36;06;20
Christina
All the extroverts.

00;36;07;05 - 00;36;07;18
Speaker 3
There, we're.

00;36;07;18 - 00;36;08;18
Christina
Going to be having problems.

00;36;09;11 - 00;36;09;27
Meghan
Yeah.

00;36;12;08 - 00;36;20;00
Meghan
Introverts. I feel like I need like a like a personal touch. Like, I need you to reach out to me. Is this app not a mass text?

00;36;20;00 - 00;36;20;25
Christina
Oh, OK.

00;36;20;25 - 00;36;23;22
Meghan
Like OK. Me specifically and say, hey.

00;36;24;02 - 00;36;24;20
Christina
OK, we're.

00;36;24;20 - 00;36;28;11
Meghan
Going at this time. Like, you be there.

00;36;28;21 - 00;36;43;23
Christina
You know? OK, well, that's good. OK, I will. I'm taking a note of that for. OK, good to know. Good to know that. I need to. You have Dmu stuck you on the internet and then foursquare.

00;36;43;24 - 00;36;46;29
Meghan
I mean, it's weird how that that worked.

00;36;48;09 - 00;36;48;13
Speaker 3
Out.

00;36;48;22 - 00;36;50;28
Meghan
Almost as if I'm citing history.

00;36;52;17 - 00;36;53;20
Speaker 3
I know, I know.

00;36;53;21 - 00;36;54;02
Christina
Yes.

00;36;55;21 - 00;37;19;14
Meghan
For those. For those. If this is your first episode, that is how Cristina and I became friends. I had shared my story of losing my husband, jason on an Instagram page called The Hot Young Widows Club and tagged my personal account in there. And she came to my personal account, slid into my DMS and then just, like, bullied me into being her friend.

00;37;22;20 - 00;37;22;29
Speaker 3
We were.

00;37;23;13 - 00;37;36;16
Meghan
Just kidding. It wasn't bullying, but she did do that. She did, like, reach out personally, and she was very persistent because at first I was like, cool, thanks. Bye. You know, and and here.

00;37;36;16 - 00;38;03;20
Christina
We are two years later talking about getting our show just waxed on, you know, for every the entire world to hear oh, my gosh. Oh, wow. So if you're just joining us for the first time, like, this is not our normal content, we cut back to episode one if you would like to hear how we get our stories and all of that stuff, we recognize that people are jumping in at different spaces in our journey.

00;38;03;26 - 00;38;22;01
Christina
But if you are just starting out hot back, listen to episode one. Listen to episode 23 if you're processing, because this might be like what in the world? I thought this was a great podcast it's about grief, but we also want to laugh and have fun and remind you to take care of yourself. So that's what we're all about is.

00;38;22;01 - 00;38;26;08
Meghan
Your annual exams. So schedule them. Do you have anything else to add?

00;38;26;08 - 00;38;46;17
Christina
I would just like to say thank you so much to all of our listeners. It is a pleasure to get to interact with you on social media. If you are, I have an exciting announcement before I say the next thing we are. Drumroll, please. We're getting merch. We're working on merch.

00;38;47;02 - 00;38;47;20
Speaker 3
Whoo!

00;38;48;23 - 00;38;55;29
Christina
And I'll. And I'll. I will, I will. I will give you one what is like one merch thing that we can.

00;38;55;29 - 00;38;59;13
Meghan
I think that there's for sure we will get this piece of merch.

00;38;59;13 - 00;39;17;18
Christina
I, I feel like that to you. So it should be super obvious to you what we are getting, but I'm not going to say it. I'm just going to tease you with it and leave that here. It's one way you can show support for our podcast another way that you can show support for our podcast, which helps to just offset things.

00;39;17;18 - 00;39;28;13
Christina
And also we love coffee. And so if you go on to our link on to our page, you can show support. It's linked in our bio. It's linked to other places.

00;39;29;01 - 00;39;41;01
Meghan
Yeah. It says Support this podcast on the link and it will take you to our buy bank coffee page, which is a way that you can send us donations and buy us virtual coffees.

00;39;41;02 - 00;39;43;03
Christina
Yes, yes. So yeah.

00;39;43;03 - 00;40;05;00
Meghan
And as a, as a bonus thing that is more uncomfortable than getting a mammogram when you're a size stick to your car. Seat in the hundred degree Texas summer, like the seat in your car when you're supposed to stick to it, that's more uncomfortable. And getting a mammogram I live it. I live it every day. Every single day.

00;40;06;19 - 00;40;34;28
Meghan
